Adhering to the strategy of innovation-driven development and advancing discipline construction and research work. Guided by the "2+2 with 3" discipline development strategy, the hospital makes use of the two traditional advantageous disciplines of pediatrics and orthopedics, aims at two major healthy issues - tumors and cardiovascular diseases, and integrates the three disciplines of anesthesia, rehabilitation, and obstetrics and gynecology to construct four major discipline clusters: comprehensive pediatrics, comprehensive orthopedics, tumor-related disciplines, and cardiovascular-related disciplines. Guided by the "Double First-Class" construction indicators, we strive to strengthen cooperation between the university and the hospital. In the past five years, the hospital has been ranked among the top 100 in the rankings of Science and Technology Evaluation Metrics (STEM) of Chinese hospitals, with 26 disciplines entering the top 100 and 12 disciplines entering the top 50. Currently, the hospital embraces three specialties under the National Construction Project of Key Clinical Specialty (pediatric respiratory medicine, pediatric critical illness diagnosis and treatment, and orthopedics), one under the National Key Construction Specialty of The State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine (Rehabilitation Medicine), 4 Zhejiang Provincial Primary Disciplines of Clinical Medicine (Anesthesiology, Pediatrics, Orthopedics, Obstetrics and Gynecology). Besides, we have established one Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education, three Provincial Key Laboratories, one Provincial Clinical Research Center, one Provincial Engineering Research Center, and two Provincial International Cooperation Bases for Scientific and Technological Cooperation, covering all types of scientific research platforms at the provincial and ministerial levels.

Deepening cooperation with schools and universities on scientific and technological innovation. The hospital strengthens cooperation with advantageous colleges at WMU, such as the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, the School of Basic Medicine, and the School of Laboratory Science and Life Science, to jointly develop and utilize advantageous scientific research resources, deepen the integrated development of clinical medicine and pharmaceutical sciences, basic medicine, laboratory medicine, and other advantageous disciplines thus promoting the construction of "double first-class" disciplines. The university takes "cultivating renowned doctors, establishing renowned disciplines, and creating a renowned hospital" as the key to its sustainable development and continues to improve core competitiveness and advance high-quality development.

In the past five years, our hospital has obtained 100 national-level research projects and won two first prizes in the Scientific and Technological Progress Award in Zhejiang Province and one second prize in the Chinese Medical Scientific and Technological Progress Award. We have also led the development of 13 national standard guidelines and expert consensus and published 1002 high-quality SCI papers, including an original research article published in "JAMA". From 2018 to 2022, we have been granted 614 patents. As of December 31, 2020, our hospital ranked first in the number of valid patents among provincial-level hospitals. In the 2021 Chinese Hospital Innovation and Commercialization Rankings, the hospital ranked 24th nationwide and 5th in PCT applications.
